We Are Worthy
Two Copper Sparrows is a one-woman operation based in Rockford, Michigan. I am the sole owner, designer, and craftsperson, handle every step of the process, from cutting leather and paper to stitching and installing hardware and shipping your products.
My passion for leatherwork was ignited during childhood visits to my aunt's clog factory, Sven's Clogs (www.svensclogs.com) in Chisago City, Minnesota. The sight of my aunt gracefully maneuvering the sewing machine, the intoxicating aroma of leather, and the intricate details of the clogs captivated me. I dreamed of one day working with this beautiful material, though I initially dismissed the idea as impractical.
After years in ophthalmology, motherhood led me to become a stay-at-home mom. Seeking a creative outlet compatible with my new role, I turned to sewing. With guidance from my friend Laura, I learned the basics of fabric cutting and stitching. As I delved deeper into sewing, the memory of my aunt's leatherwork resurfaced.
With her encouragement and guidance, I began exploring the world of leather. My aunt shared her knowledge of skiving, glue selection, thread and needle choices, and the ideal leather for different projects. She also generously gifted me Lucille, a vintage 1960s industrial sewing machine. Despite initial challenges, I eventually mastered Lucille, and together, we embarked on a creative journey and now work seamlessly together.
The name "Two Copper Sparrows" is inspired by Matthew 10:29-31. This passage speaks to the inherent value and divine protection of even the smallest creatures. Having personally battled postpartum depression and PTSD, I found solace in this message. I hope this name resonates with those who are struggling with mental health issues, offering a reminder of their worth and potential.
This is my story, and this is Two Copper Sparrows. I am committed to crafting unique, high-quality pieces tailored to your preferences. If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to reach out.
